Since last summer I have revisited my work I did for the FAD 2016 competition I did back at uni.. The theme was A Sense of Place. My work was inspired by nature especially by the coast.
I am glad to report I made a couple of these designs come to life! I am hoping to complete a collection for these gowns this year.. Below photos show part of this process..
So the starfish inspired me and I attempted to replicate this by sequins and beadwork..

I then produced the prototype shown below, this was very tricky as I had not sewed with organza yet and this was to be gathered and stitched to the hem of the dress..

The final outcome, beadwork was really time consuming but I got the hang of it eventually :) Gathering organza was not an easy task especially working with organza for the first time! Rolling the hem stitch was new to me also.

I am very excited to say I made my seashell dress finally! So from my sketchbook work I tried different samples to show the seashell look as per below..

I am happy with the final outcome. From this design I learnt to make ruffles and rolled hems:)
